The news that made the headlines with Microsoft over the past week was the layoffs. However, for BI professionals there has been an even more impactful change. Microsoft is changing the way Performance Point is packaged and licensed. The Monitoring and Analytics piece will become part of Microsoft Office SharePoint Services as PerformancePoint Services. If your Enterprise is licensed for MOSS this is a very good thing as it means you should be able to deploy Scorecards and Dashboards to your entire organization without additional licensing costs.
Microsoft will be releasing a service pack for the planning piece but they do not plan any additional investment into the platform. This is no so good news for those folks who have invested into the Planning platform. I think what we will see is Planning functionality eventually being integrated with Dynamics and potentially Excel Services.
